Could I just start of my saying:
“War…..War never changes.”

That is the epitome of what I was thinking when I first came up with the idea for Rune. He is a deity devoted to combat. He is the main general for the army of celestial soldiers that protect the Upper Planes of existence. Next to Celeste he is the highest ranking member of the Upper Pantheon, and definitely one of the most powerful in terms of souls. One of the main differences with Rune, is that he doesn’t appear in the same way that most war-god deities do. You know what I mean. All rippled out with tattoos and muscles or wearing heavy plate armor and wielding a giant great sword.
Rune takes the form of a robed figure. The robes he wears are a dark black with golden trim. The hood of his robes is always lifted around his face, and the only thing you see looking into it is a void. Darkness. Some of his followers have reported seeing Rune appear at the site of great battles, his form looming at the edge of the conflict, but never engaging.
Rune’s symbol is that of a key, ornate in design, with a diamond originating from the bottom of the key. Usually the symbol is worn as an amulet around the neck, or carved into the shield of some of his followers.
Rune’s followers value courage above all else. Even though Rune is the god of war, his followers never openly look for a fight. His tenants deal with strength in battle, courage in the face of evil, and restraint when violence is not necessary. Rune accepts the souls of his followers who die in battle as well as those who devote themselves to his church and healing.
During the Calamity, Rune and his army of angels were in charge of quelling the tide of demons from the Abyss. This was a task left for those that would surely perish in the onslaught. Beside him were the Arch-fey from the Feywild. Being that the Arch-fey have godlike power, but were not “real” gods, they were shunned by Celeste and the others.
Ultimately Rune is the only god that stands up to Celeste, but he has not attempted to take the mantle of supreme ruler of the Upper Planes. Rune has the numbers behind him and the power to gain the edge and take control, he just doesn’t. This most likely due to his values, and how strongly he holds them.
