Adventures of Shell Co.| That Moment When…

I was thinking it was time to introduce some of the adventurers currently rampaging through Fenwrath. On a weekly basis we meet to play Dungeons and Dragons and make bad decisions together. In the future I would like to give a more in depth coverage of each characters motivations and back stories, but because they are currently playing I do not want to divulge too much information. I fear the meta pigeons may be too strong to resist with this one.

Currently the party consists of:

  • Koompa, a tortle barbarian with his pet marmot Chunk
  • Braelynn Mog, a half-orc paladin who worships Illira
  • Galindan Ilphelkiir, a high elf fighter
  • Agid, a changeling sorcerer
  • Ashryn, a half-moon elf rogue
  • Asher Bladewalker, a human blood hunter

Up to this point in the adventure, the party has been traveling all over Fenwrath in search of very powerful artifacts known as the Shards of Chaos, and avoiding a powerful warlock and his angel companion.

Right before their adventure today, they had a short encounter with the warlock, known as Zitek. This encounter resulted in a heavily damaged group and one burning cart in the field. Zitek claimed this was just a warning.

At the beginning of the session the party debated for quite some time as to whether they should continue to the next potential shard location, contact the organization that they work for, or retreat to the city of Zhenith to the southeast. They decided that the only way to proceed was by going forward, and so they continued to travel northward to the city of Wildpeak and towards the next Shard. There will be more to come on how this entire story came to be, but for now just know that they are almost certainly headed to their deaths. πŸ™‚

The remaining day of travel to Wildpeak was uneventful. After camping just outside the city for the evening, they party made their way into the city of mercenaries. The town of Wildpeak is one of the only areas inside of Fenwrath that is completely lawless. The Mithril Guard and the army of Fenwrath have no presence within the city or surrounding territory. The town itself is very rudimentary and most of the buildings are crafted from stone that is mined from some of the neighboring mountains. Although roughly made the buildings offer a decent amount of protection from the elements and from any unwanted invaders.

The party made their way to the town square where they left their cart and horse just outside a small weapons shop. Once inside they met the purveyor of the establishment, a young man named Gregory. Gregory showed them some of his wears and gave them information about the local tavern, The Broken Dagger.

Before they left the weapon shop, Koompa noticed a locked case with a large flail. The flail seemed to almost emanate black and red smoke from its hilt. The flail itself appeared to be a bit larger than a standard flail with an obsidian handle and streaks of red that run along the length of it. At an offer of 2500 gold pieces it was too rich for Koompa’s blood.

After leaving the shop the group headed to the Broken Dagger for some guidance about the Bonespine mountains to the north. Last the party heard that was the direction they needed to go. Upon entering the Broken Dagger the party saw a lot of ruffians scattered about, frolicking in their decadence. Two people that stood out the most. One being a handsome looking, athletic human coated in grime. The other a very large goliath a bit on the hefty side compared to most, but still strong. The party entered the tavern just as an altercation broke out between the two, resulting in the goliath punching the human square in the face. The goliath pulled back his fist and sat back on the other side of the table, the mug in his fist a shattered mess. The human was left on the ground with his face in a ruined mess. The party’s resident good-orc, Braelynn, almost immediately moved to heal the wounded human. With great success his face magically healed leaving a crooked nose and a blood all over his clothes and face.

The human came back and thanked her pulling out a platinum piece that appeared to be very ancient when compared the ones currently in their pouches. He moved to the bar a bit unsteady and slapped it down, the bartender, Athen, pulling it behind the bar and giving him what seemed to be a standard order.

Around this same time Koompa had ordered drinks and rooms for the party to rest. He then began to ask the bartender if she knew anything about the goliath that punched out the human, discovering that he was the owner of the Broken Dagger. They also started talking to the human learning that his name was Res, and he was a former mercenary who got lost in the caverns within the Bonespine Mountains for weeks. Eventually becoming the sole survivor of his group. Res was clearly haunted by what happened to him. This forced the party to slowly start rethinking their plans of entering the mountain. Especially without any kind of guide.

The party then headed off to bed for the evening. All of the party sleeping were sleeping comfortably in their bed when Braelynn and Ashryn were awoken by two assassins with Braelynn and Ashryn as the apparent targets. After a brief scuffle, the entire party was woken up and began to fight off the two assassins and three mercenaries who attacked each of them while they slept. Ashryn was heavily damaged in the fight and this resulted in her falling to the blades of the two assassins. Death slowly took her as she bled out.

The two assassins barely escaped with their lives as they disappeared in the early morning light. The party was left to contemplate the assassins motives, and to figure out a way to save Ashryn from deaths embrace.

To be continued…..
